Celebrating Ethics Day in our Asia Pacific offices

We have celebrated Ethics Day around Asia Pacific for three years running, to boost employee awareness of the importance of ‘doing the right thing’ in a way that is exciting and engaging and challenges the stereotype of typical compliance training. This year’s celebrations happened on, 7 December 2012.

We celebrate Ethics Day in conjunction with the United Nations' International Anti-Corruption Day each year, hosting competitions to engage employees and bring to life the ethical principles we want to embed. For example, we showed a video 'Take a Closer Look', where employees had to count the number of breaches in the video. The prize for finding the correct number was a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue.

In our Singapore office, employees voted for their favourite piece of photography, poster art and newspaper article on ethical themes. Michael Kane, Regional Sales Capability Development Director, won the photography section with his entry 'Know where the line is', depicting a lively bar scene in Vietnam. The 'line' is in fact the headlight from a motor scooter.

Michael said: 'With this picture, I tried to bring to life our Code of Business Conduct tagline "know where the line is". In a world where much is open to personal interpretation, our Code defines what is acceptable or not from Diageo's perspective. As much of our business in Asia is on-trade, I thought it would be appropriate to use an image from on-trade with someone on the outside looking in.'
